May A. Ortiz ,96, a long time resident of Trementina, NM passed away on February 8,2011 in Dalhart, TX at home in the loving presence of family members. She was preceded in death by her parents,Augustine and Vicenta Jaramillo; her husband Jose Ortiz; her sister Gregorita (Lillie) Apodaca;a nephew, Joe Apodaca, and the following grandchildren: Linda Wheeler, Mario, Eli, and Trampas Ortiz, and Mark Lujan.
She is survived by her three sons: Ernest of Los Lunas, NM, Ben of Bernalillo, NM, and Carlos of Tucumcari; four daughters: Celina Lujan of Elida, NM, Imelda Rodriguez of Las Vegas, NM, Lucy Romero and DaisyHuseman both of Dalhart, TX and all of their respective spouses. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 28 great-great grandchildren.
She was born on November 28, 1914 in Chaperito, NM to the late Augustine and Vicenta Jaramillo Allemand. She was a long time homemaker and rancher in Trementina, NM. Her love for the outdoors kept her busy gardening, tending to cattle, and all her other barnyard animals. She lived to accomplish the most each day and lived life to the fullest. Her main priority focused on accommodating everyone around her making her the perfect hostess, friend, mother, and grandmother. She could always make something out of nothing so no one ever left her house hungry. She will be greatly missed by all who came to know her.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 13, 2011 in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd., Las Vegas, NM from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
All services will be held from Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, NM with a rosary on Sunday evening February 13, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday morning, February 14, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. The interment will follow in the family plot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Rodeo Club in care of the NMHU Foundation, Box 9000, Las Vegas. New Mexico.
