Michael Stephen Esquibel, 35, a resident of Las Vegas, NM was called home suddenly on Thursday, January 15, 2009. He was born on November 17, 1973 in Las Vegas, NM. He is survived by his parents, Emilio and Helen Esquibel of Las Vegas, NM; his sister Sylvia Gillen of Tooele, UT; his brother, Lawrence Esquibel and wife Patricia of Bosque Farms, NM; nieces Melissa Barela, and Nicole Esquibel; nephews Jonathan and David. His special friends Cher Lefebvre and her daughter Sage, Kaia Kusiw, sons Isaac and Liam of Louisiana, Lia Irizarry of Ohio; grandmother, Tina Marquez, Jeanie Sena, Gina Vigil; and Charlie Vigil and extended family members. Michael attended West Las Vegas Schools through the 8th grade and then spent 6 years at the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell graduating from high school and completing 2 years of college study. He graduated from Highlands University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Health. Mikey loved many people and many things in his life, his family, friends, all of God's creations and Vato Rugby. He sought to bring everyone he met in to his love for life. Mike was an avid outsdoorsman enjoying river rafting, skiing, racquetball, life in the mountains, landscaping and working with his hands. He loved his dogs, Mia and Rusty. He loved to laugh, cook, read, learn and teach. He was creative, gentle and strong as a bull. He had a special love for kids, kids of all ages. You were never too young or too old to be recruited for Rugby. He loved laying a good hit on you in the field. A visitation will be held today from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. Services will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with a rosary this evening at 7:00 p.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. Cremation will follow and the interment will take place on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to any of the following in Michael's name: Heating & Air Conditioning Fund at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, New Mexico Military Institute, or the Vatos Rugby Team-Highlands University c/o Dr. Dick Greene.
