Mildred M. Maloof, 92, a retired elementary school teacher and resident of Las Vegas, passed away on Sunday evening at the Casa Real Nursing Center in Santa Fe. She was preceded in death by her parents Fred R. and Willie Carter Meador; two brothers, Fred and Gilbert Meador; and three sisters, Billie and Dollie Meador, and Zella Hill. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Edward Maloof of Las Vegas, NM; four nieces: Barbara Maloof Marcum of Denver, CO, Nancy Albert Kersey of Edmond, OK, Rhonda Lester of Long Beach, CA, and Betty Kay Skinner of Artesia, NM; five nephews: Jimmy Albert of Elk City, OK, Bobby Maloof of Las Vegas, NM, Jackie Don Meador of Oklahoma City, OK, Kermit Hill of Santa Fe, NM, and David Hill of Alamorgordo, NM; one brother-in-law, Ralph J. Albert of Elk City, OK; a sister-in-law, Margaret Roberts of Artesia, NM; and many great nieces and nephews. She was born in Portales, NM on January 17, 1916. She married Edward Maloof on December 13, 1941 in Las Vegas, NM. She received her BA and MA degrees and a teaching certificate from New Mexico Highlands University. She taught elementary school in Belen, Villanueva, and West Las Vegas. She was an avid gardener and gourmet cook. She was an expert equesterarian and loved rodeos. She and her sisters, known as the "Meador Sisters" sang at the 1940 National Democratic Convention which was held in Chicago, IL. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and was past president of the B. P. O. Does and the National & State Education Associations. The Maloof family was blessed when she married into the family. Cremation has already taken place. A rosary will be recited this evening at 7:00 p.m. in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Father C. John Brasher will celebrate the Mass. The interment will follow in the Maloof family plot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.gonzalesfunerals.com.
