Nea C'de Baca Escudero passed away at Alta Vista Regional hospital on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 following a brief illness. She was born of a family lineage of Baca, C'de Baca, Delgado, and Romero whom contributed to the long history of New Mexico. The history extends from Spain's Onate resettlement, 1623-1624, the Mexican Period, the U. S. Territorial Period, and to the present statehood of New Mexico.
Nea was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico and as a child she attended elementary school in San Jose, NM. She attended catholic school at Our Lady of Sorrows and at New Mexico Normal University in Las Vegas, NM. For forty-one years she was the manager of the ladies department and purchasing agent at Taichert's Clothing Store in Las Vegas. Due to her long life she had many relatives and friends and during the drafting of this obituary she asked for their understanding and forgiveness for any omissions she made in this obituary.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Fulgencio C'de Baca and Lucia Romero; brother, Brother Anthony Gabriel, FSC; husband, Epifanio V. Escudero; sister and brother-in-law, Carmen and Richard Escudero; father and mother-in-law, Premetivo and Filomena Perez Escudero; brother-in-law, Julian Escudero; nephew, Johnny Escudero; nieces: Vera Lucero Escudero and Linda Lamb; sister-in-law, Sally Garcia; cousins: Mary and Luis Armijo, Cleofes Romero Jr, Joe and Mary Baca Romero, Lucille Romero Duran, Marie Romero Kapkoch, Emma J. Romero, Gregorio Romero, Maria M. Delgado, Guadalupe D. and John Ludi, Rumalda D. Armijo, Charleen Chacon, Hilario Delgado, Mela C. Romero, Arcenio C'de Baca, Alice Miller, Arcenio and Lucy Guerin C'de Baca, Lucille C'de Baca, Hipolito C'de Baca, Leo and Marie C'de Baca and Donaldo "Tiny" Martinez.
She is survived by her godson and nephew, David Perez Escudero and wife Cecilia and family with whom Nea lived with the last two years of her life; cousins: Richard T. and Stella Delgado, Dr. Gilbert L. Delgado, Larry A. and Angie Delgado, Imelda M. Delgado, Jimmy and Jean Delgado, Mary and Carolyn Romero, Judge Christina Armijo, Luis Armijo, Jr., Patricia and David Vigil, Francesca Armijo, John Paul Taylor, Cecilia Gallegos, Bernadette Romero, Arabella Romero and Alejandro Aragon, Geraldine and Donald Padilla, Elba C'de Baca, Kathryn Delgado, Marie C. C'de Baca; and nephew Pete Ortega; cousins, Leroy and Ann C'de Baca, Carmen C'de Baca, Henrietta Rios Romero, Mary and Gregorio Romero, Joe Delgado, Tito and Mary Chavez and numerous friends.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 29, 2009 in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Services will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with a rosary on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. Father C. John Brasher will celebrate the Mass. The interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family has requested memorials be made to the Heating and Air Conditioning Fund at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 403 Valencia Street, Las Vegas, NM 87701.
