Pablo Juan Garcia, 83, a long time resident of Las Vegas, passed away on Wednesday following an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Manuelita Garcia; his wife, Fortunata; and sisters: Venigna Baca, Andrea Romero, Carmen Vigil, and Amalia Lucero. He is survived by one son, Paul Garcia of Las Vegas, NM; one brother, Leon Garcia of Oakland, CA; and two grandchildren: Jan-Michael Christian of Greeley, CO and Heath Garcia of Tucson, AZ. He was born in Anton Chico, NM on June 1, 1924 and attended school in Anton Chico, NM. He enlisted in the United States Navy and was with the 110th Mobile Construction Battalion and was with the U. S. Navy Seebees. They secured islands in the South Pacific Theater during World War II. After the marines cleared the islands the battalion would build and fix structures on the way to Japan. He was honorably discharged as a Carpenter's Mate Third Class on December 4, 1945 in San Diego, CA.
He married Fortunata Garcia on November 17, 1951 here in Las Vegas. He was a truck driver by trade and worked for the Budweiser Company and Farmway Feed and Equipment Company. A rosary will be recited this evening at 7:00 p.m. from St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church. Father George V. Salazar will celebrate the Mass. The interment will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
