Pedro Medina, born on February 22, 1933 to the late Jose L. and Estefanita Gallegos Medina, joined our Lord on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at the age of 74. He was a prominent rancher from Maes, New Mexico. He was a member of the New Mexico Mounted Patrol and a deputy for the San Miguel County Sheriff during the 1980's. He was employed by the United World College for the last 24 years.He is survived by his children all of Las Vegas; two sons: Jose "Majic" Medina and Esteban Medina and wife Gloria; two daughters, Merlinda Trujillo and husband Jeremy and Stephanie Montano and companion Eric Herrera; three sisters: Delia Vigil and husband Raymond of Las Vegas, Aurora Mayberry and husband Neil of Rocky Ford, CO, and Angie Sexton and husband Jerry of Santa Rosa, NM; two brothers: Samuel Medina of Maes, NM and Tobias Medina and companion Mary Griego of Las Vegas, NM; grandchildren: Amanda Medina, Juan Montano Jr., Floyd L. Romero, Jane Montano, Amber Medina, Stacee Aguilar, Celeste V. Trujillo, and Esteban J. Medina; one great-grandchild, Isiaiah Medina; a son-in-law, Juan Montano Sr.; nieces and nephews: Alice Lovato and husband Patrick, Yvonne Medina, Ramona Pacheco and husband Gabriel, Tobias Medina Jr., Jeanette Salciedo and husband Art, and Brenda Anzures and husband Richard; a special great-niece, Kystle Lovato; two aunts: Margarita Maestas and Ida Medina and their families of Rocky Ford, CO; and by numerous other relatives and friends.Pedro was loved by all who know him. He was a jack-of-all-trades and a character of heart. Pedro was most known for his hard work and determination to help anyone in need. His generosity and goodwill touched many and will never be forgotten, along with his cooler of cokes and boxes of quequitos. His passion in life was being out at the ranch tending to his cattle and horses. He enjoyed gardening, landscaping, horseback riding, watching wrestling and bull riding. Pedro will be greatly missed by all.
A visitation will be held today from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. Services will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with a rosary this evening at 7:00 p.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. Saturday. The interment will follow in the Medina Family Cemetery in Maes, New Mexico with the following friends and relatives serving as casket bearers: Patrick Lovato, Juan Montano Jr., Floyd Romero, Harold Santillanes, David Bennett, and Leroy Garcia. Honorary bearers will be the grandchildren, relatives, staff and students of the United World College along with his numerous friends.
