Petronillo “Pete” Salazar, 89, a resident of Las Vegas, NM, passed away at St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe, NM on Thursday, May 5, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Guillermo and Adela Rael Salazar, his wife Sarah Madrid Salazar, and two sisters: Margaret Gallegos and Isabel Salazar. He is survived by his son, Manuel Padilla of Santa Fe, NM; four daughters: Gloria Jaramillo of Denver, CO, Adela Nora Salazar of Santa Fe, NM, Anabelle Estella Salazar and Betty Fields and husband Mike all of Las Vegas. NM; two sisters: Louisa Madrid and husband Sam of Tucson, AZ and Eva Baca and husband Ben of Las Cruces, NM; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was born in El Garambullo, NM on July 27, 1932. He was the Superintendent of Maintenance for the New Mexico Highlands University Golf Course up until his retirement. He loved working on cars and was a cattle and horse rancher in El Garambullo, NM. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Most of all he enjoyed spending time his wife Sarah and oved to go dancing wither every weekend. This is why le left on “Cinco de Mayo”. God wanted them dancing together again. Dad, Grandpa, Gramps, Pompo, Mr. Pete, will be dearly missed. God has blessed you by taking you home. Enjoy.
Cremation has taken place and services will be held from Our Lady of Sorrows Church on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 beginning with a rosary at 9:00 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. The interment will follow later in the Catholic Cemetery in Gonzales Ranch, NM.
