Rachel I. (Gallegos) Lopez

RACHEL I. LOPEZ of Canoncito south of Mora died Thursday, February 18.
She was a wife, mother, and homemaker all her life with the exception of eight
years in which she worked as a manager of Mr. G. Shoes, a business owned by her son
arlos D. Lopez and his wife Anabelle Rael Lopez in Las Vegas.
Born on February 1, 1914 in Albert, New Mexico, she later moved to Roy where
she attended school until she moved to Canoncito and attended Immaculate Conception
School in Las Vegas from where she graduated. She worked at St. Anthony's Hospital as
a receptionist and a nurses aid and enjoyed sewing, ebroidery, and crocheting. She was
a member of St. Gertrude's Church in Mora, the League of the Sacred Heart, the Legion
of Mary, and the Confradia de San Jose.
She was preceded in death by her father Desiderio Gallegos and her mother
Francisquita Martinez, her husband Trinidad M. Lopez, one daughter Marcella Gallegos,
and one grandson Tomas Gallegos.
She is survived by one son Carlos D. Lopez and his wife Anabelle; daughter
Frances Valdez and husband Decan Gilbert Valdez from Santa Fe; Louisa Rogers and
husband Wilton from Canoncito; son-in-law Alvaro Gallegos from Albuquerque. Also surviving are Dorothy and Rosie Gallegos from Nevada , and Carmen Gallegos and Teresita Alcon from Las Vegas, NM who were raised by Rachel and Trinidad. Also surviving are 26 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and five nephews , and a very special cousin Sarita Gallegos from Phoenix, Arizona, and a very special niece Senida Herrera and a special nephew
Raymond Trujillo from Denver.
A Rosary will be recited at 7 PM on Sunday, Feb. 21, at St. Gertrude's Church in
Mora. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Monday, Feb. 22. at St. Gertrude's
Church with burial to follow at San Rafael Cemetery at La Cueva.
