Ramon Chris Martinez, 84, a resident of Las Vegas, NM passed away on February 22, 2023 at the Mountainview Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces, NM. He was preceded in death by his wife, Corina Martinez; his parents, Secundino and Cleotilde Martinez; a brother, Anthony Martinez; and a great-grandchild, Nikolai Roman Wehmeier.
He is survived by his daughter, Christina Lovato and husband Frank of Las Vegas, NM; grandchildren: Ashley Lovato Wehmeier and husband Nick of Rio Rancho, NM and Christopher Lovato and Amor Sanchez of Las Vegas, NM; one great-grandchild Malikye Sherrel of Rio Rancho, NM; one brother Levi Martinez and wife Viola of Los Alamos, NM; a sister, Ida Martinez of Rociada, NM; and a sister-in-law, Ida Martinez of Corrales, NM.
He was born in Las Vegas, NM on October 30, 1938 to Secundino and Cleotilde Martinez. He graduated from the Immaculate Conception School and received his BA Degree from New Mexico Highlands University. He was employed by the City of Las Vegas working with the Police Department and then was a purchasing agent for the City. He also worked for the First National Bank of Las Vegas and retired from there after thirteen years of service. He was a life member and Past Exalted Ruler for B. P. O. Elks Lodge #408, and was an advisor to the Ken and Sue Crimmon Memorial Fund providing scholarship money for over 400 students in the area and as a hobby had a pilot license. He was a member of the Army National Guard and was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. His beloved wife, Corina passed away in 2017.
Cremation has taken place and services will be held from Our Lady of Sorrows Church beginning with an evening rosary on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at 7:00 pm The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 10, 2023 at 9:00 am. The interment will follow in the Santo Nino Cemetery in Gallinas, NM. The family has requested memorials be made to the Building Fund at Our Lady of Sorrows Church 403 Valencia Street, Las Vegas, NM 87701.
