Reymundo Maestas

Reymundo Maestas, 84, a life long resident of Anton Chico and La Loma, New Mexico,
passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Christus St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents Julian and Romancita Baca Ulibarri Maestas; two brothers: Antonio and Ventura Maestas; and a son, Ernest Blaze Maestas.
He is survived by four sons: Reymundo Maestas Jr. and wife Lourdes and Robert Griego and wife Joann all of Albuquerque, NM, Joseph Herbert Maestas of La Loma, NM, and Michael Leroy Maestas of Moriarty, NM; three daughters: Patricia Pearl Maestas and companion Charles McClaugherty of La Loma, NM, Ramona Priscilla Maestas and husband David Samaniego of Ridgecrest, CA, and Reina Catherine Maestas and husband Elias Herrera of Southgate. CA; one brother, Frank Maestas and wife Agneda of La Loma, NM; one sister, Bella Pino of Las Vegas, NM; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 14 nieces and nephews and their children, and a special friend Louisa Herrera.
Reymundo was born and raised in Anton Chico, NM. He entered the United States Navy at the age of 17 and served during World War II. He started his career at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Ft. Lyons, CO. This is where Reymundo also started working construction and built or modified all his homes. He retired after 36 years from the VA Hospital in Albuquerque, NM. He remained active as a rancher and farmer in the La Loma, NM area up until now. He was a devote catholic and was a member of the San Jose Church in Anton Chico, NM. His hobbies included reading research especially history, sketching, woodworking, and building. Reymundo enjoyed discussing politics, having a glass of wine and living life to the fullest. His greatest accomplishments was raising eight children that he loved dearly.
A rosary will be recited this evening at 7:00 p.m. from St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. from the San Jose Church in Anton Chico, NM. Father Antonio Mondragon will celebrate the Mass. The interment will follow in the San Jose Cemetery in Anton Chico.
