Rita S. (Sisneros) Velasquez

Rita S. Velasquez, 87, a resident of Upper Anton Chico, NM, passed away on Thursday in Albuquerque, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roman and Adela Ortega Sisneros; her husband Gilbert Velasquez; brothers: Leonardo, Casimero, Antonio, and Juan Sisneros; sisters, Geneva, Celestina; her grandparents, Leandro and Sophia; and a daughter-in-law, Veronica. She is survived by three daughters: Yvonne and Sofia Velasquez both of Albuquerque, NM, and Vita Velasquez and Freddie of Las Vegas, NM; and adopted daughter, Vita Cordova of Clovis, NM; three sons, Antonio Velasquez and wife, Macky of Dilia, NM, Gilbert Velasquez Jr. and Donna, and Ernest Velasquez and Mary Ann all of Albuquerque, NM; one brother, Orlando Sisneros and Juanita of Rocky Ford, CO; sisters, Maria Castillo and Elena Aguilar and husband Margarito all of Portales, NM; numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Rita was and active member of the Democratic Party in the Anton Chico area. She was best remembered as a migrant worker having worked fifty summers in the cotton fields in Texas side-by-side with her immediate family, relatives, and friends from the Anton Chico community. She loved to sing the wedding march "Entrega" at weddings and kept the Spanish tradition alive. She was an active member of the Anton Chico Land Grant and was co-owner of AV's Store in Upper Anton Chico, NM. She was a member of the San Jose Church in Anton Chico, NM. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated this morning at 9:00 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church. Father George V. Salazar celebrated the Mass. The interment followed in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Anton Chico with the following grandchildren serving as casket bearers: Andy Cordova, Antonio Velasquez, Christopher Velasquez, Artie Velasquez, Alex Velasquez, and Dominic Montoya. Honorary casket bearers were Charlie Velasquez, Kenny Tenorio, Ray Velasquez, Daniel Tenorio, and the rest of her grandchildren. Arrangements were under the direction of Billy G.
