Robert Ray (Bobby) Madrid, 56, a well-known resident of Las Vegas, NM and Denver, Colorado passed away unexpectedly in Denver. He was preceded in death by his father, Max Madrid Sr; a brother, Max Madrid Jr; infant brother Joseph Madrid; an aunt, Stella Gonzales; uncles Ray Gonzales and Louis Madrid; and a brother-in-law Robert Chandler.
He is survived by his mother, Emma Madrid of Las Vegas, NM; sisters: Dr. Tomasita Chandler of Las Vegas, NM, Paula Madrid of Albuquerque, NM, and Ann Marie Gallegos and husband Benny of Las Vegas, NM; a brother, Eli Madrid of Washington, DC; a sister-in-law, Sandra Madrid of Las Vegas, NM; two nieces: Stephanie Gallegos and husband Steve Bazan and Lorrie Gallegos and husband David Chavez all of Albuquerque, NM; nephews: Max Gallegos and wife Sara, and Benito Gallegos all of Albuquerque, NM, Jonathon Madrid of Las Vegas, NM, and Manny Clayton of Albuquerque, NM. He is also survived by cousins, Elaine Jimenez of Albuquerque, NM David Madrid of Santa Fe, NM, and Morris Madrid of Las Vegas, NM; three great nieces, Annalisa Gallegos, Savanna Gallegos and Emma Chavez,; two great nephews, Estevan Bazan and Andrew Clayton all of Albuquerque, NM; his aunt Rose Gonzales and her family of Albuquerque, NM, and numerous other cousins and many friends.
Bobby was born on November 29, 1954 to Max Madrid Sr. and Emma Madrid. He attended West Las Vegas Schools and graduated in 1972. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1976 from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He retired from the U. S. Bureau of Reclamation in 2003 after 29 years of service. Robert was fortunate to travel throughout the country during his tenure with the Bureau of Reclamation. During his travels he met many interesting people and made numerous friends. He also received awards for projects throughout the country.
Cremation has taken place and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Father C. John Brasher will celebrate the Mass. A eulogy will be delivered by Benito Gallegos before the Mass at 9:30 a.m. The interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Honorary urn bearers will be Benito and Max Gallegos, Jonathon and David Madrid, Manny Clayton, and Larry Gonzales. James Smith will deliver a eulogy at the graveside. The family has requested memorials be sent to Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 403 Valencia Street, Las Vegas, NM 87701 for the Heating and Air Conditioning Fund.
