Lifelong Las Vegas resident, Seferino Santiago “Jimmy” Segura passed away peacefully on September 9, 2022 in Las Vegas, NM at the age of 87 years old. Seferino was born on January 7, 1935 inb Las Vegas to Rosarito “Rose” Vigil and Seferino Segura. H was preceded in death by his father and mother; a sister, Dolores Loftis Segura; brothers: Leo Segura, Roberto “Bobby” Segura and Leroy Segura.
He is survived by his three children and their families: Dennis Segura and wife Debe, William Segura, Eric Segura and wife Cynthis; two grandsons: Kenneth and Eric Segura; one great-grandson, Gabriel Segura; brother George Vigil and family; Kenneth Knoll and wife Melinda along with numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces both from the Vigil and Segura family.
Jimmy attended Immaculate Conception High School and joined the U. S. Navy in 1952. He was stationed abroad the USS Haven AH-12 at Dover Naval Base, Deleware as well as Long Beach Naval Base, California as a Navy Corpsman. After being honorably discharged in 1960, Seferino worked for the State of New Mexico, Behavioral Health Center as the payroll clerk. Seferino had many good friends and loved fishing and athletics. He coached many Las Vegas youth on the Bank of Las Vegas “Bucks,” Las Plaza Little League from 1972 to 1976, and was very proud to have the first female player on his team in 1973. He proudly served as Chair of the Mayor’s Senior Advisory Committee.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated om Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at 9:00 am from the Immaculate Conception church. A reception will follow at Charlie’s Spic and Span. The interment of his cremated remains is scheduled the same day for 2:00 p.m. in the Rosario Cemetery in Santa Fe, 499 North Guadalupe Street, where he will rest in peace with his mother, three brothers and a sister.
