Senorina M. "Chene" (Martinez) Martinez

Senorina Maria (Chene) Martinez, 96, a life long resident of Rociada went home to be with our Lord on July 27, 2010, surrounded by those who loved her. Senorina was born in Gascon, NM on August 22, 1913 to Luis Martinez and Deloritas Trujillo Martinez. She was united in marriage to Juan Raphael Martinez on September 5, 1931 in Douglas, Wyoming. She and Juan Raphael moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1947, where they raised a family of five children.
Her dream was to return to the valley that she loved. She moved back home in 1990. She pursued her love of gardening. She was especially proud of her beautiful flowers. She also enjoyed arts and crafts. She was a wonderful cook who never let a guest leave hungry. Senorina was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. We will honor her in the best way that we know how, by trying to follow her example of strength, dignity, and generosity. Senorina was deeply religious. She was a firm believer in our Lord Jesus Christ. Her greatest joy was to receive paintings and statues of saints and angels. She had a special sanctuary built to house her large collection. She was a member of the San Jose Mission Church in Rociada, NM.
Senorina was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two children; Luis and Petra, one grandson; Juan Manuel Martinez, her three sisters; Rosario Garcia, Maria Garcia, Aurora Martinez, three brothers; Juan, Jose H., and Pedro Martinez. She is survived by sons, Teofilo (Ted) Martinez (Mary) of Las Vegas, NM., Jose M. Martinez (Catalina) of Rociada, NM., Louis Martinez (Gloria) of Cheyenne, Wyoming; daughters, Henrietta Martinez (Moses) of Rociada, NM., Emma Esquibel (Ted) of Cheyenne, Wyoming; two sisters-in-law, Ida Martinez and Encarnacion Martinez of Gascon, NM; grandchildren, Joe Mike Martinez (Christine), Tomas Martinez, Pamela Martinez Trujillo (Palmer), Joseph Ted Martinez (Delma), Susan Jacquez (Caesar), Jan Martinez (Jose Luis), Willie Esquibel (Mary), Danny Esquibel, Ernest Leslie Esquibel, Esther Esquibel Gerrish (Donald), Jovita Esquibel Kloess (Brian) Guadalupe Martinez (Raymond), Louis Martinez, Anthony Martinez, Sandra Martinez Sanchez (Dwayne); 33 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren and two on the way; numerous nieces and nephews; and special daughter in law Vangie Martinez.
All services will be conducted at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday August 1, 2010 and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on Monday August 2, 2010. Father C. John Brasher will celebrate the Mass. The interment will follow in the San Jose Cemetery in Upper Rociada. Casket bearers will be her grandsons, Joe Mike, Tomas, Joseph Ted, Anthony, and Louis Martinez, Danny, Willie, and Ernest Leslie Esquibel. Honorary pallbearers will be the rest of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and special nieces Dorothy and Flora Martinez. The eulogy will be delivered by her nephew Anthony Martinez of Rociada. Memorials may be made to the Heating and Air Conditioning Fund at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 403 Valenca, Las Vegas, NM 87701.
