Walter I. Wiggins, 65, a member of a prominent Wagon Mound ranching family, passed away in Pueblo, Colorado on Thursday following an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Harriett Walker Wiggins.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Nancy of Portales, NM; two daughters: Brenda Gonzales and husband Julian of Portales, NM and Michelle Romero and husband Carlos of Las Vegas, NM; a close friend raised by him, Carlos Lozano and wife Mary of Las Cruces, NM; one brother, Fred Wiggins and wife Cleta of Las Vegas, NM; one sister, Pearl Wilson and husband, W. C. "Chuck" Wilson of Colorado Springs, CO; and four grandchildren, Stacie, Austin, and Arianna Romero of Las Vegas, NM and Derek Gonzales of Portales, NM. He was born on July 13, 1942 in Wagon Mound and was a graduate of the Wagon Mound High School and grew up on the family ranch. Besides his ranching interests he was a well service technician and enjoyed welding and drinking coffee at the café. He was a member of the Union Lodge #4 AF-AM Masonic Lodge in Wagon Mound and the Springer Chapter #42 of the Order of Eastern Star. He belonged to the Soil Conservation Service and was a life member of the Wagon Mound Bean Day Association. He was also an emergency medical technician.Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2008 in the new gym at Wagon Mound High School at 2:00 p.m. Members of the Union Lodge #4 AF-AM Masonic body will conduct the services. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be made to any Community First Bank for Union Lodge #4 and Chapter #2 of the Order of Eastern Star in Springer..
