Z enon Montoya, 79, a resident of Sapello, NM, passed away at his home on Wednesday surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his father, Jose David Montoya; his daughter, Maria Marcella Montoya, and a brother, Charles L. Montoya.
He is survived by his loving wife, Alice of Sapello, New Mexico; three sons, Michael Montoya of Amarillo, TX, Victor Montoya and wife Christina of Sapello, NM, and Arthur Montoya and wife Roberta of Albuquerque, NM; three daughters, Rebecca Montoya and husband Michael Tammaro of Rio Rancho, NM, Gloria Montoya of Santa Fe, NM, and Virginia Montoya of Las Vegas, NM; his mother, Elena Montoya of Santa Rosa, NM; a sister, Delia Rivera and husband Secundino Jr of Santa Rosa, NM; 15 grandchildren: Erica, Michelle, Tina, Valerie, Lori, David, Alisha, Marcella, Desirre, Samuel, Aquas Melissa, Joshua, Adrianna, and Gabriel; 11 great-grandchildren and by numerous nephews and nieces.
He was born in Manuelitas, NM on August 30, 1931. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army and for over 40 years was a Journeyman Insulator working for the Asbestos Workers Local 66. He married Alice C. Anaya on September 4, 1954 in Borger, TX. While in Texas he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. His interests included ranching, riding horses, long walks, dancing, hauling wood for his fireplace and was an avid Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees fan. He and his family moved to Manuelitas, NM in 1975.
A visitation will be held in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. All services will be held from Our Lady of Sorrows Church with a rosary on Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Sapello, NM. The interment will follow in the San Ysidro Cemetery in Manuelitas, NM. The family has requested that memorials be made to the restoration of the San Ysidro Church in Manuelitas in care of Alice C. Montoya, P. O. Box 16, Sapello, NM 87745.
