Catherine Alnita Baker, 89, a resident of Las Vegas, NM passed away on Wednesday at Alta Vista Regional Hospital following an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Russell Baker, Jr.; and her parents, Charley and Mattie Foraker Rikard and her Honey, Lucky, & Cocoa. She is survived by one son, Calvin Baker III and wife Alana of Carlsbad, NM; a daughter, Sheryl Sue Davidson and husband Jr. of Warrensburg, MO; a sister-in-law, Viola Baker of Moriarty, NM; three grandchildren, Timon Blackburn, Elisha Peter Davidson and Elijah (John) Scott; five great-grandchildren: Gage, Barbie, Celsey, Jorden, and Mersadez; and her friends and caregivers, Lydia Palomino, Karen and Rod Billingsley, Muri Baker, Randy Campbell and so many others.
She was born in Clinton, OK on June 19, 1928 and received her teaching certificate from Texas A & I College in Kingsville, TX. On March 8, 1953 she was united in marriage to Calvin Russell Baker, Jr at the First United Presbyterian Church. She worked at Murphey's Drug Store for 14 /15 years and then joined her husband at Gordon's Jewelers. She was a member of the Las Vegas Hospital Auxiliary for 50+ years, the Las Vegas Garden Club, Epsilon
Sigma Alpha sorority. PEO, Supper Club, Coffee Clue, and the Jewelers Association. She served at the First United Presbyterian Church for years as deacon, elder, card ministry and participated in Presbytery of Santa Fe. Her hobbies included playing the accordion and playing the piano.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. from the First United Presbyterian Church, 1000 Douglas Avenue. Pastor Katie Palmer will officiate. The interment will follow in the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:15 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made the First United Presbyterian Church. .
